Two killed in murder-suicide at Rockville nursing home
(ABC7, AP) - Montgomery County police are investigating a possible murder-suicide at an assisted-living facility in Rockville.
Capt. Paul Starks, a police spokesman, says two people are dead and investigators at the scene are calling it a murder-suicide.
Police say the victims are a husband and wife. The wife is a patient at the facility and her husband came to visit her.
Police identified the victims as Sandra Ballard, 74, and Albert Ballard, 80, both of Rockville.
Police were called shortly before 10 a.m. Monday to the National Lutheran Communities & Services complex on Viers Drive, where the bodies were found.
Kenneth Yee tried to come visit his mother but authorities prevented him from seeing her.
“They would not let me in the building,” he said. “They just said there's an emergency and the rooms are closed off.”
The village at Rockville - formerly the National Lutheran home - is a continuous care community, 30 acres of independent living homes plus a central facility for skilled nursing and rehab services.
Officials stress there's no danger to other residents, that this was an isolated tragedy.
Residents say it's a quiet and caring place.
“Some of my neighbors are in tears,” said resident Ginny Wilson. “It's just so sad.”
