October 5, 2011 - 05:02 am
Crews are expected to begin scanning the north and west sides of the Washington Monument for cracks today.
The National Park Service says engineers completed inspecting the east and south sides on Tuesday.
The climbers are checking by hand the structure’s 36,491 stones for earthquake damage. The team hopes to finish-up their work sometime today.
