Woman knocked unconscious in Dupont Circle robbery
A woman and man were robbed and beaten early Tuesday in Dupont Circle, police say.
At about 2:40 a.m., the two caught a cab from the 9:30 Club to 21st and O streets NW when they were robbed, according to police.
The male victim, who did not want to go on camera, tells ABC7 News he was attacked from behind, hit in the head with an object and mugged. When the 25-year-old victim turned around, he says he saw that his female companion had also been assaulted and knocked unconscious with a bloody head injury.
Police say her belongings were found scattered along the sidewalk and that she suffered injuries to her head.
Both victims were transported to a hospital where the woman remains Tuesday after undergoing surgery. She is expected to recover. The male victim says it was the second time in less than a month that he was assaulted and mugged in D.C.
The incident happened outside Kyle Kaisers' door. He says he hopes police will work with the community to make sure assaults like this don't become a trend.
“We can all look out for each other (to) combat that and make sure were on the offensive,” he said.
Police say they don't know if more than one suspect was involved in the assaults.
