'The View' seeking to host a GOP presidential debate
Daybreak Daily’s afternoon visit to the pop-culture world finds something that, actually, seems as though it would a huge hit. These ladies are smart and know their politics, especially Barbara.
WITH A GUEST APPERANCE BY ROSIE?: Per the New York Post, “‘The View” wants to bring the GOP presidential debates out into the daylight -- the daylight hours, at least.
The Barbara Walters-hosted morning show is lobbying Republicans to stage a debate on daytime TV and let the women of the “The View” moderate it, according to reports. The panel on the show is -- with the exception of conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck -- notoriously liberal and the candidates would have to agree to what would likely be hostile questioning from Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg.
Still, it is a bold move for the show that has become the main forum for women and politics on TV. No talk show has ever hosted a presidential debate before. Producers are telling the candidates that it wants to stage a 60-minute debate during the show’s usual 11 a.m. time slot. So far, the candidates are not responding to the offer -- but the campaigns are starting to say they already have a heavy schedule of upcoming prime-time debates.” http://nyp.st/sfvtAo
007: Per the AP, “Ah, Mr. Bond, we've been waiting for you - and at last 007 is back, several years after his last screen adventure.
Producers announced Thursday that filming has begun on "Skyfall," the delayed 23rd film in the series and Daniel Craig's third outing as the suave British superspy. Craig, who has brought a hard edge to his portrayal, told reporters that the movie, directed by Sam Mendes and shot in London, Scotland, Turkey and China, would be "Bond with a capital B."
Craig said he was "tremendously excited" to be stepping back into the role for the first time since 2008's "Quantum of Solace." Work on the film was postponed, and Bond's future looked uncertain, when studio MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010. But MGM's new management and EON Productions announced earlier this year that the spy would live to fight another day.” http://apne.ws/sTLDxS
KIM BAILS: Per Us Weekly, “Kim Kardashian is cutting short her time in Australia -- nixing planned promotional engagements through the weekend in Melbourne and elsewhere. Various Australian news outlets confirm that the reality star, 31, is flying home to the U.S. with sister Khloe on Thursday or Friday; she had forged ahead with the big trip despite filing for divorce from husband Kris Humphries on Monday.
One of Kardashian's canceled gigs include an appearance at the Melbourne Cup Carnival for Swisse vitamins marquee on Saturday, for which she was reportedly to be paid $150,000. Last-minute, reps attempted to cajole Khloe to attend in her distraught sister's behalf, but she refused.” http://bit.ly/s62mYj
YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME: Per Entertainment Weekly, “File under: Two people you never expected to say in the same sentence. But with the devastating news that Kim Kardashian has decided to end her marriage after just 72 days, even esteemed author Salman Rushdie had to weigh in on the controversy — on Twitter.
Yesterday, Rushdie tweeted (in three parts!) “1. The marriage of poor kim #kardashian was krushed like a kar in a krashian” “2. her kris kried, not fair! why kan’t I keep my share?” “3. But kardashian fell klean outa fashian.” http://bit.ly/w1UzIL
SOUGHT-AFTER JOBS: Per The Wrap, “Forget personal computing or animated movies, Steve Jobs is well on his way to posthumously ruling another realm – publishing.
Walter Isaacson’s “Steve Jobs,” a biography of the late Apple co-founder, is the top-selling book in the country.
The book sold 379,000 copies in the U.S. during its first week on sale -- the biggest weekly amount in this country since the debut of George W. Bush’s “Decision Points” and Jeff Kinney’s “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth.” That figure already makes it the 18th bestselling book of the year, according to Nielsen’s BookScan. http://bit.ly/rSc5Xi
OPEN MARRIAGE?: Per Radar, “Yesterday, we heard claims from In Touch that Demi Moore cheated on Ashton Kutcher with his even younger actor friend Ben Hollingsworth. Now, we're hearing new details on the alleged affair, which reportedly caused some more marital strife…as if there wasn't enough already!
Here's what a source had to say about it: "[Ben] said she was really hot and she took care of him. [He called her] talented and beautiful." The source is also claiming that Ben bragged about his rendezvous with Demi.” http://bit.ly/sDT5OL

The clip will be shot in the San Francisco Bay area and will be available for viewing later this month.” http://apne.ws/rslB2E

He would have turned 88 on Thursday. With extensive TV credits dating back to the mid-1950s, Stone, a native of Salem, Oregon, appeared on such shows as L.A. Law (as Judge Paul Hanson), General Hospital, M*A*S*H, Hill Street Blues, Night Court, Alice, Barney Miller, All in the Family and Mission: Impossible, according to the Internet Movie Database. http://bit.ly/uO1Onu
