A more expensive Thanksgiving
November 22, 2011 - 04:24 pm
With less than 48 hours left until the big Thanksgiving meal, the rush is on to get those last minute items.
At Bethesda's Westbard Giant, it’s is one of the busiest grocery shopping days of the year.
“Everybody is thinking the same thing - get it done today so tomorrow we won't have to be out,” says shopper Tawanda Bean.
But this year's meal will be more costly than the 2010 turkey feast.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the overall cost for the meal is up 13 percent.
That's because items like a 16-pound turkey will cost you $3.91 more this year. The stuffing and green beans are up nearly 25 cents. Pie shells are up more than a nickel and a can of pumpkin for that pie will cost you $0.41 more.
