Police are looking for four men in a black van after the attempted abduction of an 8-year-old girl Saturday in Spotsylvania.

It's the latest in a string of attempted kidnappings in the county over the past month.

“It does not appear as those any of the cases we currently have based on the information we currently have are related,” says Lt. Colonel Mike Timm of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Department.

The latest one occurred Saturday at about 4:15-4:30 p.m., when four men approached a girl near the area of Satterfield Court in a dull black van, possibly spray painted, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office says.

A Hispanic driver said to the girl, "Hey baby, come closer to the van," while an African-American man sitting in the front seat got out of the van and started walking toward her, gesturing for her to come to him.

The girl ran back to her home where her father and stepmother live.

The incident wasn't reported to police until 6:45 p.m. after the girl went to her mother's house on Harrison Road and told her mother.

The girl was brought in to the Child Advocacy Center where she was interviewed by Detective Twyla DeMoranville.

She described the van as a black Ford, possibly an Econoline model, with some type of painted red writing that looked smeared and read "MALROY."

The suspects were described as men dressed in gray "big poofy coats."

The driver was a Hispanic man wearing sunglasses with a mustache. He also had on a blue hat with no writing or symbols.

The man that approached her had a crew cut and wore a black hat with no writing or symbols on it and blue jeans, she said. He was older and had a white goatee and mustache.

The two other passengers were described as Hispanic with one having long braided hair.

This is the fifth attempted abduction in the area in three weeks, according to police.

Frantz Simon is worried about the five attempted abductions and troubled about the vastly different circumstances and descriptions of the vehicles involved and the suspects.

“I don't know if it's maybe perverts or something,” he says. “It’s absurd that they are having so many things around here in this area.”
