Baltimore police ID man fatally shot by officer
November 25, 2011 - 01:01 pm
BALTIMORE (AP) - Police are identifying a man they say was fatally shot by an officer as he brandished two large knives on a busy Baltimore street.
Police announced Friday that 52-year-old Anthony Stoakley was the man an officer encountered when she was called to Edmondson Avenue for a report of an armed man Wednesday morning.
Police say Stoakley refused to comply with the officer's demand that he drop the knives, and she shot him at least once. Stoakley was hit in the abdomen and was taken to an area hospital, where he later died.
The officer was not injured. Police have not released the officer's name, but say they expect to release her name Monday.
