Car crash victims Anthony Vindel, Delonte Mackie remembered in vigil
A Prince George's County community came together Tuesday to remember the victims killed in a fiery crash on Friday.
Eleven-year-old Anthony Vindel and his 2-year-old brother Delonte Mackie died when the car they were traveling in was struck by another vehicle and burst into flames.
“I'm just sad, he died, my best friend, we were really close,” said Wynton Townsend.
Prayers and tributes to the young boys were said as family and friends came to show their support to the boys’ parents. Their mother tried in vain to save her sons.
“A lot of people loved my kids, they'll be missed. They'll definitely be missed, they touched a lot of hearts,” said Delonte Mackie Sr., the father of the victim.
The vigil was held on the Pop Warner field where Anthony played football. His former teammates and coach were there.
“It’s been tough, it’s been difficult its been on again off again, and tonight was a difficult night,” coach Yul Campbell.
