Crash on Route 50 near Bowie closes all eastbound lanes

A portion of eastbound Route 50 that was shut down for several hours overnight due to a serious car accident has reopened.
Maryland State Police and Prince George's County Fire & EMS say that the wreck occurred just after 11 p.m. on Route 50 just west of Route 197 in Bowie. All eastbound lanes of the freeway were closed while first responders tended to multiple injuries.
One person had to be transported to an area hospital by helicopter. Police say that the two-car crash sent at least three people to the hospital.
There is no word on the condition of the victims. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The lanes of Route 50 reopened at about 2:40 a.m.
