November 7, 2011 - 09:10 am
Washington Gas crews continue to repair a natural gas lead at the Cosmos Club near Dupont Circle.
Authorities say they've responded to a high-pressure gas leak at the historic club at 2121 Massachusetts Avenue NW,
Buildings were evacuated in the area in the immediate aftermath of the leak. Sixty people in the club were evacuated as a precaution, but nobody was overcome or injured.
After being closed for about an hour, Massachusetts and Florida avenues Northwest have reopened to traffic.
Washington Gas says a truck hit a meter rack near the Cosmos Club, causing the leak.
