Miami beats Redskins 20-9.

The Redskins opened on offense after the Dolphins deferred.

Our sports reporter Alex Parker reports:

1:28 p.m., 1st quarter: On the Redskins second drive… Rex Grossman moved the Redskins into Miami territory… but was sacked on 3rd down – his second sack in as many drives… Graham Gano was wide left on a 50-yard FG try… Miami still leads 7-0, thanks to Reggie Bush's 1-yard TD run. With 5 minutes left in the first quarter…

1:34 p.m., 1st quarter: Kevin Barnes interception sets the Redskins up with first and goal… a holding call on TE Logan Paulsen nullifies Torain TD run 3 plays later… the Redskins have 3rd and goal from the 11 – take a timeout…

1:38 p.m., 1st quarter: On 3rd and goal from the Miami 11… Rex hit Roy Helu for a short gain… Gano’s 26-yard FG is good… Miami leads 7-3.

1:53 p.m., 2nd quarter: Early second quarter… The Dolphins take a 10-3 lead on Dan Carpenter’s 21 yard field goal….

2:04 p.m., 2nd quarter: Rex Grossman drove the Redskins into Miami territory…. And then on a pass intended for Leonard Hankerson, Grossman was intercepted by Vontae Davis (Dunbar HS in DC)… Hankerson slipped on the play – probably the reason for the INT… Miami still leads 10-3 midway through the second quarter…

2:13 p.m., 2nd quarter: Rex Grossman completes a 16-yard pass to tight end Fred Davis, his first catch of the day. @mattmedved

2:19 p.m., 2nd quarter: Graham Gano is good on a 47-yard field goal… the Redskins cut Miami's lead to 10-6… about a minute left in the half…

2:23 p.m., Halftime: The Redskins trail 10-6 at the half… Rex’s numbers so far: 9 of 12 for 103 yards with one interception… it’s very obvious that he is so much more willing and adept – than John Beck - at throwing the ball downfield and threatening the defense… the offense does look better – albeit with no running game – but only 6 points to show for it… Unlike the last two weeks against Buffalo and San Francisco, this one actually feels like a (competitive) game at halftime…

2:42 p.m.: 3rd quarter: And yet another FG from the Redskins…. Gano connects from 23 yards out to cut the Dolphins lead to 10-9… The Redskins had first and goal from the 9 but lost 6 on a screen to Fred Davis, then settled for the 3. The Redskins took over at Miami’s 24 after a sack/fumble by Ryan Kerrigan was recovered by Stephen Bowen…

5:00  3rd quarter: And yet another field goal… Dan Carpenter just hit from 28 yards out to give Dolphins a 13-9 lead with about 5:00 left in the third quarter… the big play on the drive: Matt Moore to Brandon Marshall for 26 yards on 3rd and 4…

11:57 4th quarter: Throwing for the end zone from Miami's 10 yard line, Grossman's pass is intercepted. Miami ball at their own 19 yard line.

The best and worst of Rex Grossman – in two consecutive plays…
Best… on a big 3rd and 9… Rex throws a strike to rookie Wr Leonard Hankerson for a gain of 22 – setting up 1st and Goal from the 10…

Worst… very next play… Rex throws into coverage… intercepted by Carlos Dansby… Rex’s second INT if the game – although the first one didn’t appear to be his fault…

Miami still leads… 13-9 early in the 4th…

6:07 4th quarter: Miami touchdown. Dolphins lead 20-9.

The ol’ endaround… on a 2nd and 8 from the Redskins 18… Reggie Bush ran an ‘end around’ and went virtually untouched into the endzone… the dolphins now lead 20-9 midway through the fourth quarer… Rex Grossman got the start at QB for Washington and has brought a spark to the Redskins offense – but has thrown two interceptions…

2:51 4th quarter: Redskins field goal attempt misses. Miami holds 20-9 lead.

Final:  The Redskins lose at Miami 20-9… the Redskins first 5-game losing streak since the start of the 2001 season – under Marty Schottenheimer… Rex Grossman was – as usual – a mixed bag… he certainly added life to the offense – although he couldn’t get the Redskins into the endzone and his pick in the red zone - with the Redskins moving toward a possible 16-13 lead - was HUGE – the play of the game by far…
