Man shot by Howard County police
A man was shot by Howard County police after he refused to drop his weapon, police said in a news release.
The man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition. His identity is not confirmed, police said.
Police received a 911 call around 3 p.m. Monday that a man with a gun had fired shots in Hanover. Police responded and saw a man with a handgun walking near Loudon and Melrose Avenues.
The officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, which he did not, police said. He walked along railroad tracks to the back parking lot of an industrial park in the 7400 block of Hi Tech Drive.
Officers again ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he continued to refuse. Officers fired shots at the suspect, striking him. Police are investigating the incident, including how many officers were involved.
