Power outage on National Mall expected Friday night for repairs
Power on a large area of the National Mall and Memorial Parks will be turned off Friday night to allow for repairs to damaged power lines.
Emergency repairs to a damaged power line near the Lincoln Memorial will require the shutoff, the National Park Service said in a news release.
Pepco will shut off power at midnight for about four hours. Power will be out along
· Constitution Avenue from 23rd Street to 17th Street NW,
· Independence Avenue from 23rd Street to Maine Avenue SW,
· 23rd Street from the E Street Expressway to Independence Avenue SW,
· 17th Street from Constitution Avenue south to Maine Avenue SW.
The Park Service said many traffic signals and street lights in the area will be without power, as will many of the memorials within the area.
A buried power line was damaged Thursday night as a water line was being installed for the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
