Shanee Liggins, Frostburg student accused of killing Kortneigh McCoy, in court
The Liggins family is trying to wrap their heads around the tragedy. They declined comment after Monday's court hearing.
"I'm heartbroken for them as well as I am," said Darryl Liggins. "If they are feeling like me, it's horrendous."
Liggins denied to police that she was responsible for the stabbing.
McCoy, a sophomore physics major at Frostburg, was scheduled to sing with a student gospel choir on Sunday. The performance instead became an emotional memorial for McCoy, packed with students and faculty.
At an afternoon press conference, Frostburg State's president blamed alcohol for many campus incidents. After the second party-related homicide in two years he said binge drinking has to be reduced.
“I'm angry because over the past five years we have worked extremely hard to create a safer community,” Frostburg State President Jonathan Gibraltar said.
