Small business Saturday celebrated by D.C. retailers
November 26, 2011 - 10:43 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - Retailers in the nation's capital are joining the second annual Small Business Saturday effort to focus support on local businesses during the holiday shopping season.
Neighborhood activities and performances are planned in Washington's Adam's Morgan neighborhood on Saturday. There will be a farmer's market anniversary celebration, a winter fashion show and a wine tasting. Tryst coffee shop plans to give away free coffee.
Organizers say 89 million consumers plan to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving this year. The effort was started last year with support from American Express.
