Virginia Beltway lane closure in effect this weekend
November 17, 2011 - 04:54 am
MERRIFIELD, Va. (AP) — Weather permitting, motorists who use the Capital Beltway this weekend should expect to lose one of four southbound lanes near Interstate 66 to construction.
Work crews plan to close the right lane on the Beltway's Outer Loop at the I-66 interchange near Merrifield for work associated with the construction of high occupancy toll lanes, or HOT lanes.
Unlike many closures that have been restricted to overnight hours, this lane closure is expected to be in place throughout the entire weekend, from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Motorists are advised to expect delays during peak travel times. The $1.4 billion HOT lanes project is scheduled for completion in late 2012.
