29 Occupy Tampa protesters arrested after peaceful protest
December 2, 2011 - 08:30 am
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Police in Florida have arrested 29 Occupy Tampa protesters who refused to leave a park.
The arrests followed a peaceful protest at Riverfront Park around 10 p.m. Thursday.
Tampa police say the protesters were given several warnings and the St. Petersburg Times reports about 20 people left the park.
Officers told the remaining protesters they would be arrested if they didn't leave.
Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy says the officers backed away to give them time to leave.
A short time later, 29 people were arrested on trespassing charges and resisting arrest without violence.
The protesters were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail overnight. They ranged in age from 19 to 59.
