Many are having difficultly getting the treatments they need to stay alive.

It's a problem thousands of cancer patients are facing when their chemotherapy comes as a pill instead of the traditional intravenous format.

Doctors at Maryland Oncology Center say many of the newer, more effective chemotherapies only come as pills and should receive the same coverage as intravenous chemo.

Some states have passed laws requiring insurance companies to provide equal coverage. Others, like Maryland, are considering the idea.

Doctors say in extreme cases, some patients decide not to be treated because paying for the life-saving chemotherapy would basically bankrupt their families.
