Police: Gunman in Texas murder-suicide dressed as Santa; 7 dead
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - Police in Texas say the man they believe is responsible for a Christmas Day shooting that left him and six members of his extended family dead was dressed as Santa Claus.
Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling said Monday the shooter "showed up shortly before the incident took place" in the Santa outfit and was a member of the family opening gifts in the apartment.
Eberling said the identity of the man and the victims will be released after autopsies are conducted Monday.
Police went to the apartment Sunday after receiving a 911 call in which no one was on the other line. They found four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, dead.
The apparent murder-suicide involves the first homicides in this Fort Worth suburb since June 2010.
Earlier: 7 people shot dead in Texas home, motive unclear
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - Investigators say seven people who were found fatally shot Christmas Day in a suburban Fort Worth apartment were likely cleaning up holiday wrapping paper when they were attacked.
Grapevine police believe all the victims were related and that the shooter was among the dead. But a motive remained unclear as police worked into Monday morning trying to piece together what happened.
Police say four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found dead in a kitchen and living room Sunday afternoon, shortly after police received a 911 call in which no one was on the other line. Two handguns were found near the bodies.
None of the victims has been identified.
Police say no neighbors reported hearing anything unusual, though many residents weren't at the complex Christmas morning.
