D.C. schools, libraries closed Friday
December 2, 2011 - 06:45 am
WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia public schools are closed Friday for a professional development day.
But the system's 46,000 students won't be able to spend their free time in the district's libraries — those are closed too, for staff development.
Library spokesman George Williams tells The Washington Post that the timing is a "coincidence."
He says libraries also closed last year on the first Friday of December and that he hadn't known schools would also be closed.
