Dioni Fernandez arrested in sting found guilty
WASHINGTON (AP) - A District of Columbia police officer arrested earlier this year in an internal sting operation has been found guilty of attempting to receive stolen property.
Dioni Fernandez, who's been on the police force for eight years, was found guilty by a Superior Court judge on Wednesday after a four-day trial. He's scheduled for sentencing on Jan. 27.
The 35-year-old Fernandez and two other officers were arrested in March on charges that they arranged to buy iPads, televisions and other electronic equipment that they believed were stolen.
The other two officers, Silvestre Bonilla and Guillermo Ortiz, have previously pleaded guilty. Prosecutors say Ortiz was given supervised probation, a fine and community service, while Bonilla is awaiting sentence.
