Gaithersburg Potomac Oaks sexual assault leaves community shaken
Montgomery County Police are continuing their search for a man they say sexually assaulted a cleaning woman at a Gaithersburg condominium complex; a crime that has the residents of the area concerned for their safety.
The assault occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, when police say the victim was followed into a laundry room at the Potomac Oaks Condominium in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard.
Once inside the room, police say the suspect locked himself inside with her, pulled out a knife and sexually assaulted the 28-year-old woman.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries, police say, but she is shaken up over the incident.
Residents are now concerned for the welfare of the victim, and themselves.
"She is a sweet little gal," resident Dave Brunzell said. "Very police, very nice, very friendly."
Upon hearing of the assault, residents now have their guard up and their apartments on lockdown.
"I have lived in Gaithersburg since 1968, and it's not what it used to be," Brunzell said. "These people are animals."
There is no description available of the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
