Green Monday: FedEx expects to move 17 million packages on Monday alone
Most have heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you ever heard of Green Monday?
Green Monday is the second Monday in December and was coined by eBay in 2007. It's consistently one of the top spending days of the season.
Analysts say Green Monday marks the beginning of the heaviest week of shopping for online retailers.
Businesses hope to cash in on the shopping craze when people realize they have less than two weeks before Christmas and they need to get presents and get them shipped.
Online sales this year are up 15 percent, to $24.6 billion, according to Reston research firm comScore.
There's even a Facebook page dedicated to Green Monday deals.
FedEx is expecting to move a record 17 million shipments on Green Monday alone - 10 percent more than last year's busiest day, and double what the company moves on an average day.
The company says e-commerce is causing the increase.
The effort will take nearly 290,000 people, 90,000 trucks and 680,000 flights to safely deliver more than 260 million shipments to gift recipients before Christmas day.
