As the FBI knocked on his door, they also listened as he instructed his wife Leslie Johnson to hide even more bribe money. That audio has gone viral.

They're two of the many incidents recorded by federal authorities that will lead to what many believe could be a harsh sentence on Tuesday at the U.S. District Court in Greenbelt.

As a judge considers Johnson's sentence, he'll be basing his decision on far more than those two snippets. Federal prosecutors have presented a 75-page document outlining the breadth of the county exec's corruption.

An example: Even as the Prince George's Hospital Center struggled to stay afloat, Johnson was planning a sweetheart retirement deal for himself by lining up a consulting contract for hundreds of thousands of dollars for nothing.

His words: "I don't want no job."

In another intercepted phone call he described his efforts this way on an FBI wiretap: "I'm trying to line up some stuff for myself, man. That's what I need.”

Johnson, facing extortion and bribery charges in federal court, earlier pleaded guilty to one count of extortion and one count of evidence tampering.

Prince George's County resident Denise Howard says Johnson deserves a stiff sentence.

“For all the underhanded under the table madness,” Howard says.

But as Johnson faces up to 14 years in prison, he also still has believers.

“All these things he's been accused of doing and all,” says Arthur Thomas. “I don't know anything about that.”
