Jeff Sears, Glen Burnie High teacher, arrested, charged with sexual abuse
A teacher and coach at Glen Burnie High School has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of sexually abusing minors, police say.
Anne Arundel County Police took 29-year-old Jeff Sears into custody on Thursday morning. He faces three counts of sexual abuse of minors, all of whom are reportedly female students at Glen Burnie.
Authorities say that the investigation into Sears began on Nov. 1, when the county Board of Education contacted the Department of Social Services over a suspected sexual relationship between Sears and a student. At that point, he was removed from his assignments, which included teaching English and coaching basketball at the school
During the investigation, police identified three female victims, all between the ages of 15 and 16 at the time of the suspected offenses. The incidents took places both on and off campus and both during and off school hours, police say.
Sears has been charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor, third and fourth-degree sex offenses, solicitation of a minor and multiple counts of assault.
