But now the sport is back, in a big way.

There was excitement in the air this afternoon as they packed into the old Cariegie Library for the official weigh in.

An entourage from the U.K.--Khan's Army they call themselves--came to support Amir Khan, world lightweight champ, from London.

He's of Pakistani descent and American-Pakistanis came from as far as Minnesota to see him.

And challeging Khan for the title is D.C.'s own Lamont Peterson, who grew up on the mean streets and in foster care.

And now big hopes are riding on him. This has been a big deal for D.C.

The mayor held a welcome press conference. Reporters have followed Peterson's every move in practice.

And now the big day's approaching. At the convention center this afternoon they were putting up the ring and getting the cameras set for HBO.

Also fighting on the heavyweight card is another local, Seth Mitchell of Waldorf, taking on a fighter from Uzbekistan.

Sadly for the last minute fans, it's sold out.
