LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say several cars burned early Saturday in suspected arson fires in the North Hollywood area.

Officer Robert Collier says authorities are investigating if the fires affecting seven or eight cars are connected to nearly two dozen arson fires in Hollywood about 24 hours ago.

Those fires on Friday spread to several structures. But Collier says that although some of Saturday's blazes are in carports and garages, he hasn't had any reports of damage to buildings.

Reports of the car fires began coming shortly after 1 a.m. PST

Police have set up a command post in the area and have called a tactical alert, allowing them to call in more officers.

No arrests have been made and no injuries reported.

As of Friday, authorities have not ruled out a connection between a car fire that afternoon and a series of arson blazes earlier in the day.

Los Angeles Fire Capt. Jaime Moore says fire officials were investigating for possible links to the series of arson blazes that broke out early Friday morning in the area, and a connection hasn't been ruled out.

Moore says arson investigators consider the latest blaze "to be an incendiary fire similar to the fires from this morning."

Fires were reported in nearly two dozen locations in Hollywood and the neighboring city of West Hollywood during a four-hour period before dawn Friday. In nearly every case, the fire started in a parked car. Some blazes spread to nearby homes.

As a result of the fires, authorities have beefed up patrols and urged the public to remain vigilant.
