WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service has filed a new lien against D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry.

The September filing, first reported by The Washington Times, was for more than $3,200 in unpaid federal income taxes for 2010. It came less than two years after a separate lien was filed against the former mayor, citing more than $15,000 in unpaid taxes from 2005 to 2008.

Barry, a Democrat who serves on the committee that handles taxation and revenue matters, pleaded guilty in 2005 in a case that involved unpaid taxes from 1999 to 2004. His three-year probation was extended until 2011 after prosecutors argued that he continued to fail to file tax returns.

Barry says the lien will be taken care of and these challenges don't interfere with his service to constituents.
