December 30, 2011 - 12:46 pm
BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland health officials are reporting the state's first case of seasonal influenza.
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene announced Friday that the first laboratory-confirmed case of seasonal influenza has been diagnosed in an adult in the Baltimore area. This season's first confirmed case comes months later than last season's.
Officials say last season's first confirmed case was reported on October 14.
Deputy Secretary of Public Health Services Frances Phillips reminds Maryland residents that it's not too late to get vaccinated against an illness that sickens thousands of residents every year.
