Michael Boehm, U.S. Park Police Officer, 'suicidal' man both die in Key Bridge incident
A 19-year veteran of the U.S. Park Police died Friday night while responding to a call on the Key Bridge.
U.S. Park Police Sgt. Michael Boehm collapsed while investigating a call of a man down in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal near the bridge connecting Georgetown and Rosslyn.
The other person has also died, but the cause of death has not been released and it has not been confirmed whether or not he jumped from the bridge.
Park Police say that Boehm was assisting another officer in handling the critically injured person when he collapsed. Boehm was transferred to Georgetown University Hospital where he died.
Key Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions sporadically during rush hour, causing a traffic nightmare at the always busy bridge.
Sources say the unidentified man was found next to the base of the bridge and was taken to a hospital.
Boehm is survived by his wife Corrina and son Christopher.
