One in 11 will shoplift this season, study says
'Tis the season to be jolly and... shoplift.
A new study by Adweek predicts one in 11 people will take items and leave without paying for them this season, a six percent increase from last year. This costs the retail industry $119 billion.
Having worked in retail, Toni Jones has seen her fair share of shoplifting.
"Let's say one of the retail clerks wasn't at the front of the store. A whole table could be wiped out," Jones said.
Analysts say even more merchandise is slated to be wiped out this year.
"Times are hard," said Ashley Brown, a shopper. "I don't seem surprised. People don't have money out here to take care of what they need to, so they take it I guess. But it's not the right thing to do."

About 75 percent of the people stealing are adults with jobs.
This did not surprise shopper Eric Liefermann.
"Adults with jobs and kids who don't want to disappoint," Liefermann said. "Santa Claus has gotta bring something."
So what are the "hottest" goods?
The top five stolen items are: Gillette razor blades, electronic gadgets like iPhones, electric tools, Jameson whiskey and, number one: filet mignon.
