Mitchell Smith, missing blind man, found safe
UPDATE: On Thursday, Dec. 29, authorities announced that Mitchell Smith was located and is safe.
The family of a blind man is worried after he went missing more than a week ago.
Police and family are receiving conflicting reports about sightings of Mitchell Smith, 33.
ABC7's Kimberly Suiters continues our coverage of the search for Smith.
On December 16, Mitchell Smith, 33, was getting ready to board a train bound for Alabama at Union Station, but police say he never reached his destination.
"He'll call anytime, anywhere he is" said Madeline Smith, his grandmother. "I haven't heard anything."
A fellow passenger who saw Smith on the train told ABC7 News Smith seemed confused and that Amtrak workers told Smith to get off the train in Charlotte and make a connection to Alabama, several hours later.
Smith is 5-foot-11 and has a scar on his right temple, the result of a shooting ten years ago which left him blind. He also carries a red and white cane.
