Police shoot, kill man in Dumfries
An armed burglary suspect was shot and killed by police in Prince William County police Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the officer shot the man because he was seen armed with a handgun, refused to comply with an officer’s commands and charged at an officer, police said.
The deceased was identified as Jabril Eli Mitchell, 21.
The incident began at about 1:40 p.m., when police identified a vehicle in the 18200 block of Old Triangle Road in Triangle that was believed to be connected to an armed burglary from earlier in the day.
Police stopped the vehicle and took the female driver into custody. The suspect fled on foot.
Authorities tracked the suspect to a wooded area off of northbound Jefferson Davis Highway, which is where police shot the suspect.
Jefferson Davis Highway northbound will be closed at Bradys Hill Road for an undetermined amount of time.
