December 12, 2011 - 07:45 pm
An armed man was shot and killed by police Monday evening in Northeast, authorities said.
Shortly before 7 p.m., D.C. police responded to the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE for reports of man shooting at homes, police said.
Authorities identified the suspect as 20-year-old Michael Ezekel Epps.
He was high on PCP, police say. Witnesses said they heard gunshots and ran back to their homes.
Officers arrived on scene and came face to face with the man as he was firing a gun, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said.
Police ordered the man to drop his weapon. When he did not, they fired at him, striking him.
Officers performed CPR on him until emergency personnel arrived and took him to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
