Police: Woman poisoned her grandmother after stealing $12,000
YORK, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania woman is behind held without bail in the poisoning death of her 90-year-old grandmother three years ago.
York Area Regional Police say Shelby Lyn Adams mixed morphine with her grandmother's chili during a May 2008 outing to a fast food restaurant. Ada Adams became ill and died two days later of opiate toxicity.
Investigators say Ada Adams was fatally poisoned shortly after discovering thousands of dollars were missing from her checking account. Police say Shelby Lyn Adams has admitted taking the woman's checkbook and writing $12,000 in checks out to herself.
Authorities say Shelby Lyn Adams had access to morphine as an emergency room employee at York Hospital.
Shelby Lyn Adams faces charges including homicide, forgery and theft. It was not clear if she had an attorney.
