President Obama to host Kennedy Center honorees
December 4, 2011 - 08:07 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama hosts the five recipients of the 34th Kennedy Center Honors at a White House reception Sunday before attending the evening gala at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
This year's honorees are singers Neil Diamond and Barbara Cook, classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma, jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins and Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep.
It's the third time the president will be saluting the Kennedy Center honorees - in the previous two years, he's paid tribute to such luminaries as Bruce Springsteen, Robert De Niro, Dave Brubeck, Merle Haggard, Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey.
The gala will be broadcast on CBS Dec. 27.
