ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker III says he is open to adding a slot-machine gambling in the county as a way to help generate funding for new projects.

Baker told The Washington Post on Monday in Annapolis that he plans to ask state lawmakers for a large amount of funding, and said he expects slots will be part of discussions as a way to pay for the county's needs.

Baker says funding for a new regional medical center for the county will be among the requests he makes when the legislative session starts next month.

Penn National Gaming Inc. has been pushing a plan for slots at the Rosecroft Raceway horse racing track in Prince George's County, but there has been opposition.

Last Thursday, the management of the yet-to-be-completed Maryland Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County said that they've begun to accept applications for 1,500 jobs.

The casino near Arundel Mills mall is slated to open in June of 2012.
