Rep. Scott Rigell (R-VA) defies House committee with holiday greeting
A Virginia congressman is showing that he can take a stand.
Rep. Scott Rigell (R-VA) says he's defying a Congressional committee that ordered representatives to not issue Christmas or Hanukkah greetings from the U.S. Congress.
And after uploading his video greeting to YouTube, it has gone viral.
"It's good and proper and right and constitutional for me to look into the camera and say to all of our friends and family across the second district and across the great Commonwealth of Virginia and the country Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah," Rigell says.
"It didn't cost the taxpayer a dime to do what we were doing. And yet we were being restricted from saying Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah," he says. "It's a small example of over regulation that really permeates this institution."
