Stabbing outside Mood Lounge under investigation
D.C. police are trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding a stabbing that occurred outside a Shaw nightclub early Friday morning.
Police later in the day closed the Mood Lounge temporarily.
Police say that two victims showed up at Howard University Hospital at about 1:15 a.m. with stab wounds. They say the incident occurred outside Mood Lounge, at 1318 9th St. NW.
Authorities say the victims' injuries are non-life threatening.
After the stabbing, Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans called for the Mood Lounge to be shut down.
"I have been in close contact with MPD and join them in their request for an emergency three-day closure in light of the seriousness of this latest episode," said Evans. "I will continue to work with residents, civic groups, and city agencies to close it permanently as while Mood Lounge is currently licensed as a tavern, there is no doubt that it is operating more like a nightclub."
Charles Reed, the ANC Commissioner serving the neighborhood around the Mood Lounge, is joining with D.C. councilmember Evans and others in calling to shutdown mood.
“They violate the noise regulations,” Reed says. “They keep people up until four in the morning. This is not the first fight that has occurred there.”
