Stephanie Schwab appears in court
The woman accused of a crime spree that included robbing two banks and a car-jacking appeared in federal court in Virginia on Thursday, where she told a judge she didn’t have enough money for a lawyer.
Stephanie Lynn Schwab, who was arrested yesterday, is facing one count of robbing a bank, a federal offense.
According to court documents, an FBI agent with the Violent Crime Task Force said after Schwab confessed to carjacking a woman on November 19 in the parking of Neiman Marcus at Tysons Galleria.
The agent said Schwab admitted she was armed with a knife when she asked the woman for a ride to a nearby gas station. Once inside the vehicle, Schwab grabbed the steering wheel and demanded the woman make a U-turn and then made stop in a bank parking lot, authorities said.
Once parked, the victim jumped out and got away.
Three days later, agents say Schwab drove the same allegedly stolen Acura to a BB&T bank in Springfield. Once there, she showed the teller a note and said "don't scream give me the money,” authorities say.
The teller gave her more than $1,800 in cash and Schwab walked out, authorities say.
Documents state that when police found the alleged carjacked Acura abandoned in Maryland just a few days later, the female victims checkbook was inside with a handwritten note on the back that said, “I have a gun give me the money.”
Schwab was taken into custody Wednesday in Maryland on Old Georgetown Road and I-495. When she was caught, she had been driving a Ford Escape with Pennsylvania tags which had been reported as stolen.
Schwab was arrested after she allegedly attempted to rob a BB&T Bank branch in the 6200 block of Old Dominion Drive in Arlington.
