Va. residents to appear in 'Moonshiners' TV show
CHATHAM, Va. (AP) - A father and son from Pittsylvania County will appear on a new television show about making moonshine.
"Moonshiners" will feature Tim Smith and his son J.T., along with friend Steve Tickle and state alcohol-control agent Jesse Tate. The show is to air at 10 p.m. Tuesday on the Discovery Channel.
Nearby Franklin County once was considered the world's moonshine capital, and many across the county line in Pittsylvania played a role in that.
Smith told The News & Advance that he's unable to discuss the show because of his contract. But he's said that he dreams of opening a legal moonshine distillery, and also considers moonshine making a dying art that's a deeply rooted part of Southern culture.
