Virginia Railway Express fare increase proposed
December 20, 2011 - 05:47 am
Riding the commuter rails in Northern Virginia may soon set you back a little bit more.
The management of Virginia Railway Express is proposing to raise fares and taxpayer subsidies by 3 percent each in 2012.
Any fare hike would take effect next July.
The commuter train service, which runs on weekdays between Fredericksburg, Manassas and Union Station in Washington, says it needs to offset rising costs.
VRE also expects to have state and federal funding cut.
