Woman kidnapped, sexually assaulted in Northwest
A woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in Northwest Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Shortly after 5 p.m., police responded to a sexual assault in the 1200 block of Delafield Place NW, according to a news release.
The victim told police that she had been walking in the 900 block of Emerson Street NW when a man drove up in a white van with a side panel, got out, and forced her at knife-point into the van.
The attacker drove about half a mile, where he sexually assaulted the woman, police said. He then dropped the woman off in an alley on Delafield Place, police said.
"To think that somebody just drove past and basically kidnapped, it's frightening," said resident Veronica Weaver.
In an area where the most egregious crimes are usually car break-ins, residents are baffled that this would happen here and women who frequently walk these sidewalks are on guard tonight.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
