8-year-old pedestrian killed by out-of-control car in Alexandria
An 8-year-old boy was killed when a car ran off the road in Alexandria Sunday afternoon and hit him and his mother, police say.
A 22 year-old Fairfax County man was driving a 1994 Honda Accord westbound on Duke Street approaching the overpass to Interstate 395.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a 31 year-old Lincolnia area woman and her 8 year-old son, according to Alexandria Police.
The car continued down an embankment, struck a traffic control box and came to rest against the guardrail along the northbound lanes of I-395.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother was taken to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the driver remained on the scene and was not injured.
Members of the Crash Reconstruction Team are investigating.
Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Alexandria Police Department at 703-838-4444.
