Alex Ovechkin, Dennis Wideman to play in All-Star game
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and defenseman Dennis Wideman will play in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game.
Celebration festivities will be held January 26-29 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Ovechkin, 26, will be making his fifth-consecutive NHL All-Star appearance, tying the Capitals club record held by Peter Bondra. He currently leads the Capitals in goals (17), shots (156) and power-play goals (6) and ranks second on the team in points (33) and hits (133). His 156 shots rank seventh in the NHL.
Wideman, 28, will be making his first appearance at an NHL All-Star Game. The Kitchener, Ontario, native currently ranks fifth in the league among defensemen in points (29), tied for fourth in goals (8), tied for fifth in assists (21) and leads the Capitals in average ice time (24:08).
