Arlington murder rate reaches new low - no homicides in 2011
January 2, 2012 - 10:15 am
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — An Arlington County police spokeswoman says no homicides were reported in the county last year.
Detective Crystal Nosal says it has been at least 50 years since Arlington has ended the year without any homicides.
The Washington Post reports that the number of homicides in Arlington in recent years has been small. In 2010 there was one; in 2009, there were two; and in 2008, there were four. In 1990 and 1991, the number was as high as 12.
Authorities say homicides in the District of Columbia are also at their lowest level in nearly 50 years.
