PG Police: Body in well expected to be extracted Saturday

The excavation for the body found in a Fort Washington well is moving faster than anticipated and investigators expect to have the body extracted Saturday rather than Sunday, Julie Parker, spokesperson for the Prince George's County Police Department, tells ABC7.

The body is expected to be out by about 6 p.m. A forensics team is going down to take pictures and recover evidence before removing body.

No cause of death or identification will be available until Monday at the earliest.

Prince George's County police cadets spent the day Friday searching, step by step, the open field and the abandoned home around the well looking for evidence.

Thursday at noon police received an anonymous call saying there was a body in that well.

The well is described as being three or four feet round and 20 feet deep. Police say it is a human body at the bottom of the well but aren't speculating on how long it's been there.

They also aren't saying if they have any evidence yet that would reveal who the body belongs to.

There are, however, questions about whether the victim is missing Alexandria community activist Lenny Harris.

The 53-year-old Harris was last seen four months ago leaving an Alexandria recreation center.

Someone has used Harris' credit card since he turned up missing but there has been no sign of Harris.

Police say it will likely be several days before they will be able to identify the body at the bottom of the well.
