Bowie Walmart armored car robbery suspects at large
Prince George's County Police are on the lookout for three men who robbed an armored car outside a Bowie Walmart Monday morning.
At 8 a.m., a Garda armored car pulled up to the Walmart on 3300 Crain Highway. When the courier emerged from the store with the store's weekend receipts, three masked gunmen ran up and grabbed the money. They fled in a stolen white van with about $90,000 in cash.
For more than an hour, shoppers were kept out of the store as police investigated and were shocked and angry at how brazen the robbery was.
"That takes some nerve," a shopper said.
"This is my money, your money, everybody who shops at this installation. It just makes the prices go up for us," another customer said.
The heist appears to have been well-planned. The robbers apparently knew that the armored car would be collecting cash at that time. When they fled, they went less than a mile to an abandoned farm off Mill Branch Road where they left the van and fled in another vehicle.
A police K9 attempted to locate a track but eventually police towed the 15-seat passenger van, which appears to have been taken from a D.C. Charter School.
Authorities say that they're looking for three black males in ski masks who fled the scene in a white, 15-seat passenger van with signs on the side.
No one was injured in the robbery, police say.
