Bryan Christopher Stevens charged in Stafford County church thefts
A 24-year-old man has been charged in a string of robberies that hit three churches in Stafford County since the start of 2012, authorities say.
Stafford County Sheriff's officials say that Bryan Christopher Stevens faces three counts of Grand Larceny and several other charges in relation to break-ins that were reported between Jan. 1 and Jan. 10 in churches just west of I-95 in Stafford.
Authorities found out on Wednesday that Stevens was staying in a shed on the property of a vacant house off Harris Lane, and when they went to the site, they found evidence related to the three thefts. When confronted about the crimes, Stevens tried to run from deputies. He was quickly caught and taken into custody.
The burglaries occurred at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Ramoth Baptist Church and North Stafford Church of Christ. Stevens allegedly made off with flat-screen televisions, cash and a camera as a result of the thefts.
After a search warrant was served at a house in Dumfries on Thursday, authorities were able to recover property that was directly related to the thefts.
