Claude Kinney sentenced to 30 years
A 48-year-old man who pleaded guilty Tuesday to first degree murder charges for killing his wife while she walked home with their children was sentenced to 30 years.
Claude Kinney, of D.C., pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to killing Alecia Wheeler, 42, in front of their children.
As part of the plea, prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to request a 30 year prison sentence for Kinney.
Authorities said Wheeler and her children were walking home from school in the 1200 block of Neal Street, NE when Kinney pulled up next to them in his pick-up and began stabbing Wheeler.
As he was stabbing her, Wheeler’s 9-year-old daughter screamed, “My Mommy is getting stabbed," according to the U.S. Attorneys office.
The day before she was killed, Wheeler took out a temporary protection order against Kinney.
